Res. Asst. Başak Lale Presented Her Ph.D. Thesis Proposal!

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF), Department of Interior Architecture Res. Asst. Başak Lale made her “Ph.D. Thesis Proposal” presentation.

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF) Interior Architecture Department Res. Asst. Başak Lale made a “doctoral thesis proposal” presentation within the scope of Hacettepe University, Interior Architecture, and Environmental Design doctoral education. At the end of the thesis proposal jury that took place in the 2022-2023 Spring Term, the comprehensive proposal "Streets from the Past to the Present in the Intersection of the City and Housing: A Study on Istanbul", which was the subject of the thesis, was deemed appropriate to be studied within the scope of the doctoral thesis.

"The 'intermediate spaces', which are the biggest indicator that the subject of city and interior cannot be considered separately from each other, are important areas that provide connection and interaction between two different scales."

Lale, emphasizing the importance of examining these areas, which are in the middle of the city and interior, and which neither Urban Planning nor Architecture / Interior Architecture disciplines own, and that is completely in-between, spatially and socially, emphasizes that dead-end streets have a separate place among these areas. Emphasizing that these areas, which were created to ensure the security and privacy of the residents, especially in the organically developing unplanned urban texture from the past to the present, are essential "an exit street for their users", adding that they are an important area of study in terms of the historical texture of Istanbul. “An examination of Istanbul from the past to the present will reveal to what extent these areas have preserved their previously assumed meaning and spatial characteristics, and how their meaning in daily life has changed for their users.”   Res. Asst. Başak Lale emphasizes that interior works should not only consist of spatial reading, but that the social meaning of the space with its subject should also be read, and that this research will support her argument in this way.

We congratulate Res. Asst. Başak Lale and wish her continued success.
