Interior Architecture Department Students and Lecturer Minel Kurtuluş Attended Design Workshop

Students of Istanbul Gelisim University Interior Architecture Department attended an event that took place in the design workshop on June 5, 2022. The Design Workshop, which took place in a workshop in Bakırköy Zuhuratbaba District, Lecturer Minel Kurtuluş and students of the Department of Interior Architecture; Enes Can Günaydın, Onur Orhan, Fırat bitici, Ahmet Can Sağlam, Ali Rıza, Muhammet Yusuf Canyeter and Umut Özmen participated and were mentored by Burhan Can Sönmez.
In the workshop that took place, Burhan Can Sönmez talked to the participants in detail about the stages of transforming their designs into products and the whole process that took place during the design stages. He drew attention to the fact that he often included the use of traditional materials in his designs. In addition, Burhan Can Sönmez shared with the participants the process of adapting traditional materials to contemporary forms during the event.
The opinions of the First Year Student of the Department of Interior Architecture, Umut Özmen, who contributed to the organization of the Design Workshop, about the workshop are as follows:
 “The aim of the design workshop, which was held under the mentorship of Burhan Can Sönmez, was to create sustainable artistic designs from waste industrial parts. The story of the workshop began with this purpose. We have transformed waste materials into contemporary forms that we use with our various interior architectural applications and construction site experiences. We have updated this technique, which has been used since the 16th century, with designs in post-modern and futuristic styles. We combined the materials we use in our productions with lighting, tables, coffee tables, consoles and all kinds of items that complement the spaces, designed for special spaces.”
