Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF), Preference and Promotion Days started on July 18, 2024, at Istanbul Gelişim University Tower. During the Preference and Promotion Days, all questions about our university, faculty and departments continue to be answered by expert preference consultants and our university academics.
During the Preference Promotion Days, candidates who are considering choosing the Interior Architecture Department generally asked the following questions; “Is drawing ability required to study in the Interior Architecture and Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Departments?”, “What courses does the Interior Architecture and Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Departments include in their curriculum?”, “What are the employment opportunities after graduating from the Interior Architecture and Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Departments?” All these questions that candidates are curious about are answered in detail by academics. In addition to these questions, another topic that candidates are most curious about is what are the differences between the Interior Architecture, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Departments.
Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts, includes the Departments of Interior Architecture, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design. Since candidates encounter both the departments of Interior Architecture and Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at different universities, they first wonder what the fundamental differences of these departments are. Students who successfully complete both departments have the title of "Interior Architect" when they graduate.
The Departments of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design and Interior Architecture aim to train creative, proactive and productive professionals by using two and three-dimensional drawing and presentation programs, following the rules of detail, material, design, structure, color and visual expression techniques. In this context, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Interior Architecture Departments are seen as an important sub-section of fine arts due to their areas of study such as color, texture, aesthetics and design.
Although the departments of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design and Interior Architecture are largely similar, there are some differences in the education and training plan. These differences can be summarized as follows:
While the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design accepts students with a "TM1 (Turkish / Mathematics)" score, the Department of Interior Architecture accepts students with a "MF4 (Mathematics / Science)" score.
Although there are great similarities in the curriculum of both departments, there are also different courses; Furniture History, Interior Space Concept and Applications, Building Information, Material Information, Wood Construction Techniques, Acoustics, Human and Outdoor Space Relationship.
The Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design aims to train students on interior architecture and landscape architecture and propose projects that will strengthen the relationship between space and environment. Therefore, this department also includes outdoor courses. These courses can be shown as "Human and Outdoor Space Relationship" and "Project Courses". These courses include topics such as individual and space, individual and environment, individual and urban relationship, and landscape architecture. These courses aim to examine the psychological and physical effects of landscape design on individuals. In this context, in addition to project drawings, there are also various courses where the faculty garden and designated areas within the city are used as project areas.
The Department of Interior Architecture aims to train interior architects who are well-versed in color, material and technical application details in interior design and furniture design, and who can organize construction sites, costs and workflow, accompanied by social and cultural courses and activities. For this reason, the department curriculum includes comprehensive technical courses. One of these courses is “Furniture Courses”. Furniture Courses aim to provide the ability to recognize the historical flow of the furniture design and production process from its beginning to the present day and examples of interior and furniture applications. Its content includes the appearances of simple and complex structural surfaces, structural connections and dovetail systems, connection methods, connection accessories of movable elements such as doors and drawers, and drawing these details in scale.
The Department of Interior Architecture will continue to answer questions at IGU Preference and Promotion Days until August 1.
