2018-2019 Spring Semester Message of Department Head Assistant Professor Dr. Yaprak Özel

Our esteemed students at Istanbul Gelisim University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Interior Architecture. Our task is to prepare you as confident and determined individuals who are contemporary, innovative, committed to self-development and learning, researching, curious and confident in their professional life. The first step in our work for this purpose was our international accreditation. Through this, we placed you a step ahead of the students studying in similar departments at other universities. Starting from this semester, we have improved your working environments with our studios located in Gelisim Tower.

We have now provided a more comfortable working environment where you can work all day on your own desk. The opportunity to work together in the open studio system will enable you to produce original ideas by generating and developing common ideas. By establishing interactive connections, you will be able to communicate with national and international external stakeholders and experts in their fields. In addition, the studios are designed to expand your horizons to improve your social and cultural self-esteem. More opportunities were provided for collaborative interdisciplinary work with internal or external stakeholders. In addition to these developments, we aim to prepare you for your professional life with our new curriculum and our new courses on furniture design and application which is chosen as the specialty of the department. In your new curriculum, the basic professional knowledge you need to acquire is presented to you in a more systematic way, so that more time is provided for you to experience and reinforce this information. Also, the fact that an Interior Architect should be aware of every aspect of art and design in order to improve himself/herself was considered.

Another change we have made in our curriculum are the social elective courses that can support you in your future life, and with the participation of all departments of the Faculty of Fine Arts, a joint elective course pool was established which will enable you to learn more about the subjects you have interest in. By offering you these opportunities, we aim to prepare you to professional life as Interior Architects who can make open, innovative, entrepreneurial, stable, original designs.
