In the opening speech of the seminar, Istanbul Gelisim University Chairman of the Board of Trustees Abdülkadir Gayretli emphasized on the Webometrics process and its importance. Gayretli congratulated Res. Asst. Burçin Yazar, Webmaster for The School of Applied Sciences, due to her achievements on Webometrics process. Res. Asst. Burçin Yazar said: “We are very glad that we achieved this success in this process we work with the team spirit of The School of Applied Sciences and we would like to thank all department web representatives, administrative managers and Corporate Communications Department for their contributions.”

Webmaster at Corporate Communications Department Ömer Can Talu, prepared and made the presentation, touched on the subject headings titled “Which Measurements Do Webometrics Regard?”, “Our Reporting System”, “About Google Classroom”, “About Approval System”, “Content Originality”.

WEBOMETRICS REGARDS THE CONTENT ORIGINALITY

Talu expressed which measurements webometrics regards as follows: “Webometrics basically checks whether the content is original or not. It concerns factors such as the number of content on the website, that the need of the number of words in the content is at least 300-400 words, and the number of PDF on the website.” Talu stressed that each research center and office must provide at least three qualified content per week to make pages valuable for Webometrics and search engines, explaining the reporting system. Talu stated that the more original content is published at regular intervals, the higher the page value will increase.

GOOGLE CLASSROOM SERVICE

Talu, explaining the reason why they prefer Google Classroom service, made a statement as follows: “To provide ideas to all our webmasters about content and to make general announcements. Google Classroom service provides more convenient interaction with webmasters.”

Talu stated that the approval system is made on the web panel as of March 5, 2019 and explained that the purpose of the approval system is not the control of the accuracy of the content, but that the content on all sub-pages should be adapted to the corporate identity and SEO as a single language.

Stating the content originality, Talu said: “It is necessary for SEO to change the content on our page if the same content was used on another page that was not previously owned by our institution by date. The other case is to check whether there is plagiarism in the information on these pages or not. To analyze this, any sentence on the page should be copied and searched on Google.”

At the end of the seminar, Ömer Can Talu provided training on the use of panels for new academic and administrative personnel.
