The Article Contributed by Gökçe Uzgören as an Author Published in IPA Istanbul Journal
The article titled "Transformation and Uniformization in Beyoğlu", to which Gökçe Uzgören, Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF), Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design contributed as an author, was published in the 4th edition of IPA Istanbul: Urban Studies and Thought Journal. published in the issue.
The 4th issue of "IPA Istanbul: Journal of Urban Studies and Thought", which deals with the social, economic, ecological, political and cultural areas of the city with an interdisciplinary approach and was published by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and the Istanbul Planning Agency, has been published. Special evaluations of Beyoğlu are also included in this new issue, in the focus of Pera, which is in a transformation in terms of social and economic relations as well as spatially, but also contains continuity.
In the Beyoğlu file, titled "Pera of Break and Continuity", there are various articles that analyze the transformation in the field from different perspectives. One of these articles is the article titled "Transformation and Uniformization in Beyoğlu", to which Istanbul Gelişim University Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Gökçe Uzgören contributed as an author. The other authors of the article are Prof. Yildiz Technical University. Dr. Asuman Türkün, Researcher Aslı Sarıoğlu from SAM Research and Consulting AŞ, Çağrı Çarıkçı from Istanbul University and Çiğdem İbişoğlu, Elif Kırpik and Reycan Çetin Yılmaz from Yıldız Technical University. The article states that Gökçe Uzgören is a doctoral fellow in the project team and the project manager is Prof. Dr. It consists of a compilation of some of the results of the TÜBİTAK 1001 research project titled "Decisive Factors and Possible Scenarios in the Reconstruction of Historical City Centers" by Asuman Türkün.
The editors of the journal mentioned the research project they used as the main source while preparing the Beyoğlu file as follows:
"While discussing the transformation of Pera, which is the center of the city and the district, the reference source was mainly a selection of the products of the TÜBİTAK project titled "Decisive Factors and Possible Scenarios in the Reconstruction of Historical City Centers: The Case of Beyoğlu", which was announced to the public recently. We started by sharing how Istiklal Street and its immediate surroundings described the route of more than a century according to which breaks and periods that can be distinguished from each other.”
The authors summarize the content of the article as follows:
“The stages and legacy of this undisputed central district of Istanbul go back centuries. We look at the transformation Beyoğlu is going through and the uniformity it is facing from different areas, from entertainment to culture, from production to shopping.”
