Interior Architecture And Environmental Design

International Article by Cansın İlayda Çetin!

Cansın İlayda Çetin's article was published in Ankara University TOBİDER-International Journal of Social Sciences.

The article titled “Photography's Development of Architecture” by Cansın İlayda Çetin, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Faculty of Fine Arts, Istanbul Gelisim University, was published in English in December 2, volume 5 of Ankara University TOBIDER-International Journal of Social Sciences.

Cansın İlayda Çetin shared her views on the research article she wrote in English as follows:

“The aim of this study, in which I discussed the use of photography as a tool for the reproduction of architecture, was to start with the communication and functions related to the common problems between today's architecture and photography, to understand the representational limitations of photography in architecture and to understand the potential of photography to reproduce space. One of the other goals is to contribute to the literature by examining the basis of the semantic and functional relationship established with the art of photography, especially in the design process of the field of architecture. It is a well-known fact that the function of photography is more than just making the architectural elements visible, and that it gives the viewer/designer a brand new perception and design process experience. In this case, the change of design thought in the field of architecture emerges through the art of photography. At this point, the evolution of the use of photography in the field of architecture was observed, the interrelationship between photographic expression and design development was emphasized, and the field of architecture was handled as a two-dimensional document. As a result, the study brings different perspectives to the fields of architecture and design in terms of the subject it deals with.

The article summary is as follows:

“Knowledge, impression and accumulation of the built environment are seldom acquired through personal experience. Most of the information is just information from photographs. The difference in perception created by the sensory difference between architectural objects produced by visual "idealization" and architectural photographs is the main starting point of this critical research. It is very important to establish a relationship with the representative image of the building in the design process. Refers to the analysis of visual materials in published architectural photographs. The aim of this research is to start with the communication and functions related to the common problems between today's architecture and photography, to understand the representational limitations of photography in architecture and to understand the potential of photography to reproduce space. Within the scope of the research, the works of some famous photographers who contributed to modern architecture, the contribution of the performance characteristics of photography to the architectural production process and their possible developments will be emphasized. In addition, by observing the evolution of the use of photography in the field of architecture, the symbiotic relationship between photographic expression and design development will be emphasized, and the field of architecture will be treated as a two-dimensional document.”

We congratulate our instructor Cansın İlayda Çetin and wish her continued success.
