Gökçe Uzgören, Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF), on May 3, 2021, II. He presented his paper titled "Reading Different Social Realities Through Time and Space: A Study on the Traces of the Capitalist Social System in Literature and Cinema" at the International Congress of Culture, Art and Literature.
The paper was presented by Gökçe Uzgören at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Urban Planning Doctorate Program. Dr. It is based on the theoretical analyzes conducted by Fuat Ercan within the scope of the "Contemporary Problems of Turkey II" course. Emphasizing that literature and cinema are very important resources in understanding the multidimensional relationality between social actors in urban studies, Gökçe Uzgören said the following about her work:
“Within the scope of the study, a total of eight works were examined in the context of the total reproduction of society and its manifestation in space. The point I want to reach after all the works is that the ongoing changes and transformations in societies with complex systems are shaped by many different dynamics. Therefore, in which society, where, in which historical slice, in what way and with what effect any social reality discussed has an important place in sociological research. This brings us to the importance of the “time-space” context in urban studies.”

Although this aim is the common tendency of capitalism in all geographies, it is known that it has different results in different geographies and different historical sections. In this study, it is aimed to show the possibilities that literature and cinema provide in explaining the total reproduction process of society that takes place in urban life. In this direction In literature and cinema, the reflections of capitalist society relations were traced in the time and place where the events took place. By emphasizing the different results it draws, attention is drawn to the importance of the historical-geographical context in urban studies. [...]"
