 “Istanbul For Us Project” Continues with Pelin Aykut Coordinatorship


Under the coordination of Asst. Prof. Dr. Pelin Aykut, students who have undergraduate education in many different departments such as Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts, Interior Architecture, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Cinema and Television, Communication Design, and Graphic Design continue to share the "Istanbul For Us Project ".


"Istanbul For Us Project", which is carried out with students from different departments of the faculty under the coordination of Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Fine Arts Faculty (GSF), Asst. Prof. Dr. Pelin Aykut, in January 2020, drew attention to the issue of cultural heritage, raising awareness in the formation of a youth that takes care of Istanbul's art and culture. started its work with the aim of Since the day it started to be implemented, students have been trying to introduce Istanbul to their peers from their own perspectives. It is possible to follow the old and new Istanbul with the narration of the students who prepared social media posts with special content, as well as the Youtube Vlog (Video Blog) shots that attracted great attention.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE ISTANBUL PROJECT?
 
The project, which is based on the "Istanbul" themed presentation assignments of the students within the scope of the "History of Art and Design" course, which is the compulsory common course of the Faculty of Fine Arts, aims to ensure that the cultural, artistic and architectural heritage of Istanbul, which reflects its unique historical past and urban identity, is adopted by young people, It has been developed for the purpose of interpreting and transferring it to the future.

PROJECT SCOPE AND TOPICS
 
Istanbul Gelisim University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Interior Architecture, Interior Architecture Environmental Design, Cinema and Television, Communication Design, Graphic Design, Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, Fashion and Textile Design, consisting of undergraduate students in the 'Istanbul Team', is a team that has the ideal of being artistic and cultural oriented, has adopted the goal of achieving permanence by creating differences, fills the time, and strives to add value to itself and its environment. In his posts, he talks about the architecture, culture, memory, art, entertainment life, food culture, bazaar, museums and important personalities of Istanbul's historical districts.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Pelin Aykut expressed her views on the project, “I believed that this endless material should be used and appropriately interpreted and conveyed by young people, based on the unique cultural, artistic and architectural heritage of the city of Istanbul. I have full confidence in my young friends with whom I set out, who believe in this project and want to be a part of it. The project of explaining, making sense of and keeping alive this city, which has different meanings for each of us as the city where we were born/live/study, may be a way to show the city the value and respect it deserves through the youth, through the eyes of university students.” expressed in his words.

CURRENT STUDIES BEING DONE
 
We Think Istanbul Team continues to produce content under various titles such as "Unknown Istanbul", "Buildings Distorting the Silhouette of Istanbul", "Istanbul Conversations", "Domestic and Foreign Cinema", "On Palace Painters". Project manager Asst .Prof. Dr. Pelin Aykut said, “Although street vlog shootings have been suspended as part of the coronavirus epidemic measures, current content sharing continues to be made through the Instagram account. We continue to keep our motivation high during the pandemic process. As a team, we take care to follow the agenda by holding meetings and keep Instagram posts up to date.”
