The article titled "Art and Design Education and Its Future in Higher Education Institutions in Turkey", to which Büşra Kamacıoğlu, a Research Assistant at Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF), Communication and Design Department contributed as an author, was published in the ART/icle: Art and Design Journal.

From Abstract
 
Purpose: The phenomenon of art, which changes and develops by being influenced by social, cultural, political, economic and technological developments, makes it necessary for art education from pre-school to higher education to exceed its limits. In this study, it is aimed to identify current problems and propose solutions to related problems in line with the analysis of the development process of art and design education in Turkey.
 
Literature Review/Background: The important factors affecting the formation of art; historical conditions, hierarchical structure, social problems, revolutions, reforms, religion, wars, geography, climatic conditions, lifestyles and social structure. The dynamics of the emergence of art and design education in the world and in Turkey are examined in terms of the change it went through with the establishment of YÖK in 1973, within the framework of the variable phases of art. This study is important in terms of understanding the dynamics of change in art and design education and being a guide in increasing the quality in accordance with today's conditions. As in other disciplines, it is thought that it will fill the existing gap with the suggestions it offers to set some standards in art and design education.
 
Methodology: The research is limited to the change processes of universities providing art and design education in higher education and the current situation in Turkey. To be able to make correct determinations and propositions is to be able to present different perspectives on art and the functioning of contemporary art and design education in an objective way. In this direction, the opinions of a working group of 14 people, consisting of academicians who are experts in their fields and representatives of the real sector, were taken and problems were identified and solutions were offered.
 
Results: Basic needs, expectations and problems in the development process of art and design education in higher education in Turkey; (1) Problems in training instructors (qualitative problems, quantitative problems), (2) Insufficient opportunities for art and design education (lack of space, insufficient equipment), (3) Legal and administrative problems, (4) Curriculum-related problems and (5) It has been determined as problems related to the examination system.
 
Conclusion: Considering the expert opinions, solutions were suggested with the contribution of the literature to the identified problems and it was tried to shed light on the future of art and design education.
