Fusion of Form and Content in the Cinema of Terrence Malick as a Field of Perception-Based Experience: The Case of Knight of Cups

Emre Doğan, in his presentation titled “The Fusion of Form and Content in Terrence Malick Cinema as a Field of Perception-Based Experience: The Example of Knight of Cups”, is a director who includes various philosophical themes such as existence, transcendence, individual-society and individual-nature relationship. based on cinema. Interpreting the existence of a perception-based field of experience in Terrence Malick films through Gilles Deleuze's concept of perception-image, Doğan researched the visual language equivalents of the concepts through the director's camera movements, story editing and montage preferences. He also stated that the director has a tendency to transform form into content and content into form in the way of image perception and sense of meaning, and associated this with experimentation. Doğan analyzed the propositions of Malick's cinema that he created a "perception-based field of experience" and that he "fused form and content" while doing this, through the example of Knight of Cups (Terrence Malick, 2015), and in this context, he questioned Malick's means of meaning production and transfer.

We congratulate Asst. Prof. Dr. Emre Doğan and wish him continued success.
