Patent success for a mechanical massage-assisted ergonomic chair from Asst. Prof. İbrahim Erol!

A patent application has been filed on behalf of Istanbul Gelişim University for an ergonomic chair featuring a dual massage mechanism that operates without requiring electrical or electronic hardware, developed by Asst. Prof. İbrahim Erol.

A patent application was filed with the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office for the invention titled “Mechanically Controlled Ergonomic Chair Having a Dual Massage Mechanism with Independent Vertical Movement and Pressure Adjustment,” developed by Asst. Prof. İbrahim Erol, a faculty member at the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU).

The developed chair features two independent massage modules that allow mechanical massage to be applied to the user's back and lumbar regions. Positioned to correspond to the right and left sides of the spine, the modules can move up and down on vertical guide rails. The force applied by the massage balls to the back surface can be regulated via a spring-loaded pressure adjustment mechanism.

The standout feature of the system is that the massage modules can be operated independently of one another via mechanical control rods located in the armrests. The mechanism operates fully mechanically, without needing an electric motor, electronic control unit, battery, adapter, or software-based control system.

It is envisioned that the invention can be utilized across various applications, ranging from office and home-office chairs to long-term desk work systems, and from recreational seating furniture to products focused on rehabilitation and physical relaxation.

We congratulate Asst. Prof. İbrahim Erol and wish him continued success in his endeavors.
