AI-supported adaptive facade system patent success from Asst. Prof. İbrahim Erol!

Developed by Asst. Prof. İbrahim Erol, a faculty member of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Istanbul Gelişim University, an AI-supported adaptive facade system that evaluates UV exposure, user comfort, and energy consumption together has been registered with a patent.

The invention titled “AI-Supported Multi-Objective Predictive Control System Managing Adaptive Facade Shading Under Constraints of UV Exposure Dose, Visual and Thermal Comfort, and Energy Budget, and Method Relating to the System,” developed by Asst. Prof. İbrahim Erol, a faculty member at the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), has been registered with a patent by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.

The developed system manages dynamic shading elements used on building facades by jointly evaluating various criteria such as UV exposure, daylight level, indoor temperature, user comfort, and energy consumption. Data gathered from UV, light, temperature, position, and energy sensors are processed through an AI-supported predictive and optimization mechanism. Thus, the position of the shading elements on the facade can be dynamically determined according to changing environmental conditions.

The system also features a safe operation mode for situations such as sensor malfunction, data inconsistency, or power insufficiency. In this respect, the invention holds the potential to contribute to the development of smart facade systems that prioritize user health and comfort, account for energy consumption, and adapt to environmental conditions.

We congratulate Asst. Prof. İbrahim Erol and wish him continued success in his innovative endeavors.
