 Seeing the Movie: Fiction, Experimental, Documentary, Animation


Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF), Head of Radio, Television and Cinema Department Asst. Prof. Dr. Emre Doğan, one of the editors of the book Seeing the Movie: Fiction, Experimental, Documentary, Animation has been published.


The book, which deals with the short movie, which is a very special and difficult form of expression with its own internal dynamics and requirements, as an issue that needs to be evaluated from many perspectives, consists of articles by directors who have produced in the field of short movies. The book also includes an article by Asst. Prof. Dr. Emre Doğan, head of the Radio, Television and Cinema department, and academics of the department, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Kemal Çipe and Lecturer Kerem Yükseloğlu.

Seeing the Movie: Fiction, Experimental, Documentary, Animation, the book deals with the processes of making short films, which are approached as an area where ideas are freely expressed, under four genres, unlike mainstream cinema, where commercial concerns are at the forefront of everything. In the animation section, which is the first part of the book, Baturay Tunçat and Mustafa Kemal Turhan's article titled "Running to the Light at the expense of Being the Other: Sunshine"; Önder Menken's article titled "A Film Analysis Through Heidegger's Understanding of Technology: The Game" and Zeynep Merve Uygun's article entitled "The Threshold Space: Zigzag" are featured. In the documentary section, which is the second part of the book, Asst. Prof. Dr. Emre Doğan's article titled “On the Politics of Readers, Viewers and Hearers: Multiple Choices”, Kenan Diler's article titled "The Woman Who Revolts Against the Male-Dominated World with Her Job: Sister" and Önder Yaycıoğlu's "Long Choice". Documentation of the Production Stages of the Feature Film: A Behind the Scenes Documentary of the Labyrinth Film Shot by Tolga Örnek”.

In the experimental part, which is the third part of the book, there are Derya Polat Bardak's article titled “On the Individuation Journey of the Hero and Its Endless Loops in the Perspective of the Macro and Micro Universe: Loop” and Volkan Güney Eker's article titled “The Shame Secret of Humanity Pushed into the Darkness: Larva”. . In the fourth and final chapter of the book, Ali Kemal Çipe's article titled “The Postponement of Life by Individuals Stuck in Modern Society under Artificial Necessities and the Anatomical Analysis of a Film Making: German Chess”, Biriz Aydinç Öztüzemen's “From the Kübler-Ross Model Perspective to the Pain of Humans and Animals” A Look Through Intellectual Fiction: It's Like It's Gonna Rain” by Gökmen Küçüktaşdemir, “The Relationship between the Construction of Biographical Portraits in Cinema and Spaces and Their Inclusion in Poetry: Take Your Lipstick, Come!” Kerem Yükseloğlu's article titled "The First Film Dream: The Coincidences Hotel" and Oğuz Anbarlı's "The Diary of the Short Film: The Pinhole".

Published by Doruk Publications, the book awaits readers who are interested and curious about the short film. We congratulate Asst. Prof. Dr.  Emre Doğan, who has undertaken the editorship of the book, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Kemal Çipe and Lecturer Kerem Yükseloğlu, whose articles are included in the book.
