The Department Head’s Message
Dear Students
In today's paradigm, where mass media and - more importantly - cinema as a branch of art have vital importance, a 'creator' who produces in these fields has a very high potential to influence, transform and channel his or her audience, that is, society, into anything. Through radio, television and cinema, you can change and organize society and make various modifications in the culture that society generally adopts and protects. This department you are studying or will study is one of the most important departments not only of our faculty but also of our university. Its value should be known.
The most challenging and at the same time most nurturing aspect of the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema is that, as a school, it helps its students find their own professional identity, but does not complete the circle. A student graduating from the Faculty of Law can call himself or herself a lawyer, a student graduating from the Faculty of Engineering can call himself or herself an engineer, or a student graduating from the Faculty of Medicine can call himself or herself a doctor. However, it would not be realistic for a student who graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, especially the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema, to use adjectives such as director and screenwriter for himself or herself. These adjectives, which are seen as natural outcomes of this department, are acquired as a result of professional experience. In short, it is possible to graduate from this department 'without adjectives'. As stated in the first sentence, this is both the most challenging and the most nourishing aspect of our department. That's why we must work 'consistently' at desks, on sets, in studios, in classrooms, in libraries, in short, wherever and whenever we are expected or not expected to work. We'll rest one fine day.
I promise in advance that I will work with you - as if I disregard my health - in this difficult adventure, that I will spend my hours without blinking an eye to take advantage of even the slightest development opportunity, and that I will be with you from the first moment you step into this department, and I end this text by accepting that I received the same promise from you.
