First of Wednesday Workshops Welcomed With Intense Interest

The first session of Çarşamba Workshops, organized in partnership with Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF), Radio, Television and Cinema Department and IGU Career Development Center, was held with the subtitle of Cinematography Workshop.

Wednesday Workshops, organized by the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema and the IGU Career Development Center as of the 2022-2023 academic year, started to take place as an event series that includes workshops on various subjects. As the first workshop of the series, cinematographer Berkan Dörtkardeş attended the Cinematography Workshop held at Istanbul Gelişim University J Block on November 16 as an instructor. Although a limited number of participants were accepted, the twenty-two students who attended the workshop were mainly students from the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema, but the workshop was held with the contributions of students from different departments of the university.

“An Important Opportunity to Meet with Experts in the Field”

The workshop started with the theoretical explanation of instructor Berkan Dörtkardeş. After the participants were informed about the physical structure of light, the issue of color arrangement was discussed through the examples of movies and TV series. Afterwards, the installation of practical light setups was explained to the participants. Dörtkardeş talked about what can be done about light installation with limited facilities, especially in boutique student sets. Explaining how the light settings should be made in cinema and mirrorless cameras and their subtleties, lens types, and what kind of expression can be established with which lens, Dörtkardeş listened to the short film scenarios designed by the students for this semester and beyond. Opinions were exchanged on how they could make light and color arrangements for their scenarios. In the last part of the workshop, Dörtkardeş gave information about drone and drone flights to the students and gave them the chance to study together with the students and flew the drone.

An online questionnaire was used to collect their opinions about the workshop and their suggestions for the topic of the next workshops.
Furkan Altınmeşe, one of the students of the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema who participated in the workshop, stated that he sees Çarşamba Workshops as an important opportunity to meet with experts in the field. He added that he advised his friends to participate in the workshops that will take place from now on.

Wednesday Workshops will continue with various content that will be beneficial to students. The second workshop will take place on December 7 with the subtitle of Film Communication Workshop. You can follow the announcements of the event, which will have limited participation, on the website of the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema, and on the official Instagram accounts of Istanbul Gelişim University and the Faculty of Fine Arts.
