Res. Asst. Dr. Eda Türkay, representing the EcoFilm Sustainable Production Platform—where she serves as the Set Applications and Research Coordinator—conducted a workshop titled "Budget-Friendly Approaches in Sustainable Filmmaking" for the Istanbul Film Station finalists.
Focusing on reducing environmental impacts and utilizing resources more efficiently in cinema production, Dr. Türkay addressed the concept of sustainability not only in ecological terms but also in terms of economic and production practices. Low-cost and eco-friendly solutions, particularly those that can be developed for independent cinema producers, were shared with the participants.
Throughout the workshop, actionable strategies were discussed across numerous areas, ranging from pre-production planning to the shooting process, and from equipment usage to set organization. Methods such as reusing existing resources, prioritizing local production and supply chains, and reducing paper usage through digital solutions stood out as key budget-friendly sustainability practices.
In the interactive workshop, participants actively engaged in discussions, examining examples through the finalists’ own projects to exchange ideas on how sustainable production models can be integrated into their work. By doing so, the workshop aimed to establish a strong connection between theoretical frameworks and practical applications.
