Organized by Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF) and held every Tuesday throughout December, the last of the 'Short And...' event, 'Short and Academic' Overhearing, the director of the movie Ahmet Toğaç and G.K. with the participation of the director of the movie Inan Erbil. Under the moderation of asst. Prof. Dr. Emre Doğan, it was held on Tuesday, December 28 at the Faculty of Fine Arts TUSI Conference Hall.
The event started with the screening of director Ahmet Toğaç's film Overhearing, then director İnan Erbil's G.K. movie was screened. After the screening of the movie, the interview part started. In the pleasant conversation, both academic career and filmmaking were discussed.
In his speech, İnan Erbil emphasized that the biggest problem in films shot in Turkey is orientalism and said that most of the films were produced from the perspective of festival taste. In the context of the cinema industry, he stated that being involved in the cinema and TV series industry instills the stereotypical thinking patterns of the industry and that it is necessary to try to stay out of this situation as much as possible.
In his speech, Ahmet Toğaç emphasized the importance of being inspired and taking an example in filmmaking. “I think the form is important in the movie. We should consider making short films by watching short films. It is wrong math to watch feature lengths and try to make short films…”
At the end of the event, Ahmet Toğaç and İnan Erbil were presented with plaques by Asst. Prof. Dr. Önder Paker. At the end of the event, Director Ahmet Toğaç and Director İnan Erbil met and chatted with the students in the faculty garden.
