Prof. Dr. Kemal Çipe.

Mustafa Yazıcıoğlu, who is known for his projects in both the advertising and cinema sectors and especially in Hollywood, told his story of meeting music by stating that he is interested in world music and is open to all types of music. He explained that he started playing the piano when he was 5-6 years old, that playing an instrument is a family tradition, that he met world music during his secondary school years, and that he first became interested in theater music and then film music. He stated that he has been producing film music professionally since 2005, adding that he discovered universities in the world that provide education in the field of film music and continued his education abroad while studying Composition at Yıldız Technical University.

In the interview, in which the lack of academic career and literature in Turkey in the fields of sound, scoring and composing in the film was pointed out, it was emphasized that applied education in the field of film music should be increased. In the sectoral sense, the lack and inadequacy of the budget in the field of film music was mentioned.

Commenting on the comment that there is no departmental culture in the cinema industry, Yazıcıoğlu mentioned that the sound and music departments work separately abroad, and that there are agencies that music producers are affiliated with and that the producers need to meet with these agencies to agree with the soundtrack composer. After meeting with the agency and the composer, a demo was recorded over a scene of the movie, the soundtrack composer did not know which movie, story or director the said scene belonged to, the producer chose among the demos, the first demos were revised, and after the revision, the composer of the selected demo did not know. He stated that it was understood and only then that the composer met the producer and director. He added that the composers were also paid for all these demo recording and revision processes.

The questions of the participants were also answered in the conversation about music copyright and unlawfulness in this field. Questions such as how to proceed in music and sound design in short film projects, which programs can be used, and where to start for those who want to pursue a career in film music were answered.

We would like to thank Mustafa Yazıcıoğlu for sharing his valuable information with us.
