The book titled “Innovative Applications and Changing Framework in Digital Broadcasting”, which Asst. Prof. Rabiya Saltik Duvan, an academician from the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema, contributed to as a chapter writer with her text titled “Transformation of Television and Movie Watching Experiences in the Age of Digital Platforms” and included in the BKCI and WoS indexes, has been published.
With digitalization, the media and publishing sector has undergone a radical transformation, paving the way for new content production and consumption norms. The traditional publishing approach has given way to more flexible, accessible and user-oriented models using the opportunities provided by technology. While AI-powered algorithms provide personalized content recommendations, big data analytics enable better understanding of user behavior and shaping of content strategies accordingly. At the same time, the proliferation of smart devices and the increase in high-speed internet access have eliminated the physical boundaries of broadcasting and made it possible to reach a global audience.
“Innovative Applications and Changing Framework in Digital Broadcasting” deeply examines the impact of innovative applications in digital broadcasting on the sector and analyzes how these effects are redefining the traditional framework of broadcasting. In addition, the opportunities and challenges in this framework shaped by new technologies are evaluated and a comprehensive perspective is presented on the future of digital broadcasting. Covering topics such as virtual universe narratives, digital broadcasting ecosystems and binge-watching, this book is an important resource for producers, writers, broadcasters, professionals, researchers, academics, scholars and more.
Asst. Prof. Rabiya Saltik Duvan's contribution to the book!
Asst. Prof. Rabiya Saltik Duvan aimed to explore and discuss the transformation of movie and series viewing experiences in the digital age in her study. The study sought answers to the following research questions: What are the motivations for preferring digital platforms to traditional media and how do internet-based digital viewing platforms transform viewing habits? In the study, where a qualitative research model was adopted, semi-structured interviews were conducted with ten participants who stated that they preferred digital platforms over traditional platforms. The obtained data set was subjected to content analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that access opportunities independent of time and space limitations, presentation of original and non-cliché content, ad-free viewing experience, content diversity and options that can be personalized according to user preferences are important determinants in the preference of digital platforms over traditional media tools. In addition, it was determined that viewing behaviors in the digital age are individual viewing, multi-screen viewing, binge watching, genre-focused selective viewing and new content-focused viewing.
Congratulations to Asst. Prof. Rabiya Saltik Duvan.
