 Sustainability-Themed Short Film Workshop Held with Alaaddin Yavaşça Fine Arts High School Students!


A sustainability-themed short film workshop was organized by Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), for the students of Küçükçekmece Alaaddin Yavaşça Fine Arts High School.


A sustainability-themed short film workshop was organized by Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), for the students of Küçükçekmece Alaaddin Yavaşça Fine Arts High School. The event was led by Asst. Prof. Ali Kemal Çipe from the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema. Within the scope of the program, the concept of sustainability was discussed in the context of cinema and visual narrative, and insights into short film production processes were shared.
 
The Reflection of Sustainability in Cinema Was Discussed
Throughout the workshop, sustainability was evaluated not only as an environmental issue but also as an approach to be adopted within production processes. Ideas were exchanged with students on how the theme of sustainability could be woven into short film narratives. While drawing attention to the power of cinema in creating social awareness regarding environmental issues, the impact of short films in making social and ecological matters visible was emphasized.
 
Short Film Production Processes Were Addressed
The program also provided students with fundamental information regarding short film production stages. Sessions were held on scriptwriting, shot planning, scene editing, and visual storytelling techniques. Students developed ideas on how to utilize the sustainability theme in the processes of ideation, storytelling, and establishing a visual narrative language. Furthermore, narrative methods that should be considered to convey messages to the audience effectively were evaluated.
 
During the sessions, students were also presented with examples regarding the role of teamwork in film production, technical problems that may arise during shooting, and creative problem-solving methods. The goal was to ensure that participants gained practical knowledge alongside theoretical information.
 
Information Regarding the Department and University Was Provided
As part of the event, students considering the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema for their university preferences were informed about the department's educational structure, course content, and practical application areas. Additionally, the academic and applied training opportunities offered by Istanbul Gelişim University, Faculty of Fine Arts were introduced.

The workshop is considered to have contributed significantly to both raising students' awareness regarding sustainability and providing them with firsthand experience in short film production processes.
