Seçil Genç Awarded a Scholarship from The New Centre for Research & Practice!
Seçil Genç, a master’s student supervised by Assoc. Prof. Emre Doğan, Head of the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema at Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), has achieved international recognition with a research proposal developed from her master’s thesis. Genç was awarded a scholarship from the Critical Philosophy Program of The New Centre for Research & Practice, an institution known for its interdisciplinary work in the arts, humanities, and contemporary philosophy.
Master’s thesis extended into an international research program
Seçil Genç’s master’s thesis, titled “From the Discourse of Emancipation to Designed Control: A Visual Communication Design Reading of the Posthuman Female Body in Science Fiction Cinema,” is supervised by Assoc. Prof. Emre Doğan. The thesis critically examines how the posthuman female body is visually constructed in science fiction cinema and explores the relationship between these representations, discourses of emancipation, and mechanisms of control.
In her application to The New Centre for Research & Practice, Genç submitted a new research proposal aimed at further developing the line of inquiry established in her master’s thesis. The research seeks to develop a new umbrella concept that brings together existing debates and to theoretically update a concept used in feminist film theory by reconsidering it within the contexts of contemporary visual culture, posthumanism, and contemporary science fiction cinema.

Bringing together science fiction, posthumanism, and feminist film theory
Seçil Genç’s research has an interdisciplinary character through its focus on the relationships between science fiction cinema, posthumanism, feminist film theory, and visual communication design. The study aims to further develop the discussions established in her master’s thesis within an international research environment and to generate new conceptual perspectives.
