RTC student Bilge Kaan Alagöz becomes a finalist at the AFSAD 9th International Short Film Festival!

Bilge Kaan Alagöz, a first-year student in the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema at Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), has qualified as a finalist with his project at the AFSAD 9th International Short Film Festival.

Another success has been achieved by Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema student Bilge Kaan Alagöz within the Short Film Screenplay Development Platform, held as part of the 9th International Short Film Festival organized by the Ankara Association of Photography Artists (AFSAD). Bilge Kaan Alagöz earned his place as a finalist on the platform with his project titled  “Gizli Hayatlar: Bir Yıldız”.
Providing a creative production space for directors and teams with short film projects, the platform offers an extensive development process for selected works. Finalist projects gain the opportunity to receive one-on-one mentorship from experienced professionals in areas such as screenplay development, directorial approach, visual design, production planning, budgeting, and pitching.

The finalist project, “Gizli Hayatlar: Bir Yıldız,” is set in the same universe as Alagöz’s previous work, which was also a finalist in the Creative Video Competition. In this dystopian universe built on a critique of capitalism, the narrative of the totalitarian "State of Mortzya," shaped around the concept of "life debt," is further expanded.

Sharing his thoughts on the project, Alagöz described the process with the following words:

“I participated in this project with the treatment of my screenplay titled ‘Secret Lives: A Star’ and became a finalist. Set in the same universe as my project that was also a finalist in the Creative Video Competition, I am tackling a different story within a totalitarian state narrative that critiques capitalism—a state that demands a life debt from its citizens and grants the right to die only when the debt is paid. I structured this story, which focuses on the life of Volkan Armutlu, a television star of the State of Mortzya, in the style of a mockumentary (fake documentary) containing media criticism. I am very happy to have been selected with this project. I would like to thank my professors who assisted me during the idea development phase.”

We congratulate our student Bilge Kaan Alagöz and wish him continued success.
