New book chapter from Asst. Prof. Rabiya Saltik!
The book chapter of Asst. Prof. Rabiya Saltik Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Department of Radio, Television and Cinema was published.
The article of Asst. Prof. Rabiya Saltik, Vice Head of the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema, was published in the book titled "Collective Memory and Popular History on the Axis of Social Media," edited by Assoc. Prof. Şeyda Barlas Bozkuş. Saltik, who contributed to the chapter titled "Search for Countermemory in New Media in the Light of the Concepts of Power and Hegemony: An Examination through the Concepts of 'Old Turkey' and 'New Turkey'", discussed the potential of new media platforms to establish countermemory against the hegemonic collective memory in her study. In the study conducted with Ekşi Sözlük at the center, user comments were analyzed using the content analysis method and it was found that new media platforms can be used as a tool in establishing counter memories. Based on the findings obtained in the study, the qualities and functionality of the counter-collective memory created in new media platforms have been opened for discussion.
About the book
Big data transmitted to social networks over the years serves to carry the social changes we are experiencing into the future. Big data is defined as all written text, photographs, videos and design elements shared on digital media and social networks. Data produced in an unlimited space and in constant interaction has been building the information network between the past and the future on social media platforms over a twenty-year period. Content produced on social networks is effective in activating the tendency of social memory to remember and forget. With the research discussed in the book titled "Collective Memory and Popular History on the Axis of Social Media," it is examined within which shares and historical processes the acquisitions of remembering/forgetting progress.
