New Article Published by Asst. Prof. Emre Doğan!

The latest research article by Asst. Prof. Dr. Emre Doğan, Head of the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema at Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), has been published in the 58th issue (2025) of the Selçuk University Journal of Social Sciences Institute.

The article, titled "Migration from Village to City through Short Films: Three Examples, Three Tendencies," focuses on how the theme of rural-to-urban migration in Turkish cinema is addressed specifically within the short film genre.

The primary objective of the study is to interpret the phenomenon of rural-to-urban migration—considered one of Turkey's most significant social transformations since the 1950s—within the context of the increasing production of short films in the 2000s. Dr. Doğan examines the representation of this migration experience using sociological, ideological, semiotic, and mise-en-scène analyses.

The research reveals that short films often move beyond the direct narrative of migration, instead focusing more on its secondary and tertiary effects, such as impacts on family structure, intergenerational cultural differences, and the individual’s struggle for survival. In this context, the study emphasizes that short films offer the audience a more indirect and multi-layered perspective on the migration experience.

We congratulate Asst. Prof. Emre Doğan on his achievement.
