Melike Kenet and Onur Karakuş, students of Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts, Radio, Television and Cinema Department, had the opportunity to work on the film set of Garip Bülbül Neşet Ertaş.

The movie Garip Bülbül Neşet Ertaş, directed by Ömer Faruk Sorak and Berker Berki, was set at the end of June; Filming took place in Istanbul, Ankara and Kırşehir in a two-month period. RTC students also took part in the two-month filming. The students, who gained experience in many different subjects during the shooting process, stated that they were happy to take part in a successful film at the end of the shooting. Melike Kenet, a fourth-year student who worked as a production assistant on the set, and Onur Karakuş, a third-year student who worked as a backstage photographer, shared their experiences in the industry.

Being a Good Team is Important

Emphasizing the importance of being a good team, Kenet stated that he was pleased to be on the set and to have the opportunity to work with experienced names. Underlining that it was his first experience in the sector, Kenet said, “I had very good experiences here. Before the movie set started, I went to the office and attended the meetings during the preparation process. I observed how things were progressing. Before going on the set, I was always intimidated by the long working hours, the tempo of working at night, and the fact that we would go out of the city, but when I got involved, I realized that this fear was unnecessary.” Kenet, who said that his first steps in the sector were stronger thanks to the lecturers he took courses and the contributions of Istanbul Gelişim University, said, “I had the opportunity to examine each team in this two-month period. I am happy with the team I am in right now.” He emphasized the importance of being a team and working in harmony.

You Must Enjoy What You Do

Stating that he has a passion for photography since his childhood, Karakuş said that he aims to be a successful cinematographer in the future. Emphasizing the importance of stepping into the sector with a big and beautiful project, he emphasized that his experience led him to learn many new things about the profession. “The photos I took are on posters, decors, etc. They are printed for use or some of them are distributed to the press as frames from the film. Capturing the moment is very important, I'm always on the alert because I don't have the opportunity to capture a single frame again. It is very important to be on the set all the time, to follow the actors, to be in contact with the set staff and to choose the right place to be," Karakuş underlined that he loves his job despite the reasons such as long working hours, intense tempo, working conditions in difficult areas.

We congratulate our students and wish them continued success.
