Assoc. Prof. Emre Doğan’s “Right to Imperfection” Photography Series to Be Screened at the İzmir International Short Film Festival

“Right to Imperfection” (Kusur Hakkı), a photography series developed within the conceptual framework established by Assoc. Prof. Emre Doğan, Head of the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema at Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), has been selected for the non-competitive National Panorama section of the 27th İzmir International Short Film Festival. The work will be presented to audiences during the festival, which will take place from November 2 to 8, 2026.

Exploring the relationship between imperfection, aesthetic perfection, and illusion in art, “Right to Imperfection” offers a critical perspective on evaluating photography solely through technical precision. Inspired by Jean Baudrillard’s ideas on art and illusion, the project approaches imperfection not as a flaw to be eliminated but as an integral element of artistic expression.

Exploring the relationship between photography and imperfection

Developed within the conceptual framework established by Assoc. Prof. Doğan, the collective series brings together works from various photographic genres, including portraiture, architecture, nature, street photography, and abstract photography. One of the project's key production principles is that the images, captured using digital cameras and smartphones, were not digitally altered afterward. The photographs were printed directly and then scanned, exploring the possibilities of an analog way of thinking within digital production environments.

“Right to Imperfection” selected for the National Panorama section

The 27th İzmir International Short Film Festival will bring together diverse cinematic and visual storytelling practices from November 2 to 8, 2026. The inclusion of “Right to Imperfection” in the non-competitive National Panorama section will provide an opportunity for the work, which explores the relationship between photography and cinema, to reach festival audiences. The series will thus bring its examination of artistic perfection and visual representation into a different screening context.

We congratulate Assoc. Prof. Emre Doğan and all the artists who contributed to the project, and wish them success at the festival screening.
