Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF), Preference and Promotion Days started on July 20, 2022 at Istanbul Gelişim University Tower. During the Preference and Promotion Days, all questions about our university, faculty and departments continue to be answered by expert preference consultants and academicians of our university.
During the Preference Promotion Days, Frequently asked questions such as “Is drawing ability required to study in Interior Architecture / Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Departments?”, “Is it necessary to study in Interior Architecture / Interior Architecture and Environmental Design?”, “Interior Architecture / Interior Architecture and Which courses are included in the curriculum of Environmental Design Departments?”, “What are the working opportunities after graduating from Interior Architecture / Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Departments?” are answered in detail. In addition to these questions, another issue that the candidates are most curious about is what are the differences between the Departments of Interior Architecture, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design.
Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) includes the Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF), Interior Architecture, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Departments. Since the candidates have come across both Interior Architecture and Interior Architecture and Environmental Design departments in different universities, they first wonder what kind of differences these departments have. Students who successfully complete both departments have the title of "Interior Architect" when they graduate.
Interior Architecture, Environmental Design and Interior Architecture departments aim to train creative, proactive and productive professionals by using two and three dimensional drawing and presentation programs by following the rules of detail, material, design, structure, color and visual expression techniques. In this context, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Interior Architecture Departments are seen as an important sub-section of fine arts due to their fields of study such as color, texture, aesthetics and design.
Although Interior Architecture and Environmental Design and Interior Architecture Departments are largely similar, there are some differences in the education and training plan. These differences can be summarized as follows:
• While the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design accepts students with a score of "TM1 (Turkish / Mathematics)", the Department of Interior Architecture accepts students with a score of "MF4 (Mathematics / Science)".
• Although there are great similarities in the curricula of both departments, there are also different courses; Courses such as Furniture History, Interior Concept and Applications, Building Knowledge, Material Knowledge, Wood Construction Techniques, Acoustics, Human and Outdoor Relationships make up the difference between the two departments.
• The Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design aims to propose projects that will strengthen the relationship between space and environment by educating students on interior architecture and landscape architecture. Therefore, the department also includes outdoor lessons. These courses can be shown as "Human and Outdoor Relationship" and "Project Courses". These courses include subjects such as individual and space, individual and environment, individual and urban relationship, and landscape architecture. The course aims to examine the psychological and physical effects of landscape design on individuals. At the same time, in addition to the project drawings, the faculty garden and designated areas in the city are used as project areas in various courses.
• The Department of Interior Architecture aims to train well-equipped interior architects who can organize the construction site, cost and work flow, who have a good command of color, material and technical application details in interior design and furniture design, accompanied by social and cultural courses and activities. For this reason, comprehensive technical courses are included in the department's curriculum. One of these lessons is “Furniture Lesson”. Furniture Lessons aim to provide the ability to recognize the historical flow of the furniture design and production process from the beginning to the present and with examples of interior and furniture applications. It covers the aspects of simple and complex structural surfaces, their structural connections and plug-in systems, joint methods, connection accessories of movable elements such as doors and drawers, and drawing these details in scale.
Academicians of Interior Architecture, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design (Tr&Eng) Departments will continue to answer questions at IGU Preference and Promotion Days until 5 August.
