Interior Architecture

We Interviewed Our Student Eyüp Yağşi About His Internship Experience!

We interviewed Eyüp Yağşi, a senior student in the Department of Interior Architecture at the Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), about the details of his recently completed construction site internship.

• Hello Eyüp, first of all, can you tell us a bit about yourself? Why did you choose the Department of Interior Architecture, and has your perspective changed during your studies?

Hello, I’m Eyüp Yağşi, a senior student in the Department of Interior Architecture. The biggest reason I chose this department was my interest in spaces since childhood. I’ve always wondered how I could change the layout of the areas around me to create a more enjoyable environment. Throughout my education, I began to find answers to these questions. I learned that in interior architecture, it’s not just about aesthetics but also about considering environmental and social factors in design. This process has helped me realize that interior architecture is not just about design but also a philosophy of life.

• You’ve just completed your internship on a construction site. Can you tell us a bit about that experience? How did it go, and what did you learn?

I did my first internship on a construction site designed with a technopark concept. It was a truly educational and enjoyable experience for me. Being on-site allowed me to observe how projects transition from paper to reality. I also experienced the practical challenges of working on a construction site and learned the importance of teamwork and communication.

• How did the courses you took in the Department of Interior Architecture influence your internship experience?

The courses I took in the Department of Interior Architecture were quite helpful during my internship. The project courses, where we completed tasks like reading plans, and the knowledge we gained about materials were particularly useful. I had the opportunity to combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience.

• Finally, do you have any advice for Interior Architecture students who have not yet completed an internship? What should they pay attention to?

It's important to apply for internships as early as possible. Moving early to find a good internship gives you more options. Be open to learning and contributing during the internship. Don’t hesitate to ask questions, and be sure to take photos of the work you do and keep notes on the projects. This will be very helpful when filling out your internship report.

We thank our dear student and wish him continued success in his academic and professional life!
