 Sightseeing Tour in Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanical Garden: "Natural Life Against Concrete!"


A guided tour to Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanical Garden was organized by Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF), on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, between 08.30-15.00.


Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanical Garden (NGBB) Guided Sightseeing Tour, "There is Development in Nature!" was carried out within the scope of the first phase of the second phase of the social responsibility project. The project team consisting of thirteen (13) students from IGU Faculty of Fine Arts Interior Architecture, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Communication and Design, Gastronomy and Culinary Arts, Radio Television and Cinema Departments and research assistants of the Faculty of Fine Arts Başak Lâle, Büşra Kamacıoğlu, Gökçe Uzgören and Merve Karadaban and the shooting manager Res. Asst. Eda Çekemci participated in the tour, guided by Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanical Garden Istanbul Plants Collection Manager, Master of Landscape Architect Nihan Sevinç Müşdan.

Valuable Information from Istanbul Plants Collection Specialist

Nihan Seviç Müşdan showed the students on the route she determined on the central island of the botanical garden, which consists of eight islands; Nezahat Gökyiğit gave interesting information about the history and basic features of the Botanical Garden, its plant collections, the importance of preserving plant diversity, threatened and rare plants, Turkey's endemics, the effects of global warming and climate change on natural life, and what individuals can do about sustainable living.

“Natural Life Against Concrete!”

Nihan Sevinç Müşdan said that Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanical Garden differed from other botanical gardens because it was surrounded by a highway and there was no university in its vicinity where research on botanical gardens could be conducted at the time of its establishment, and said that the garden is a very important research area not only for Istanbul, but also for Turkey and all countries of the world. Nihan Sevinç Müşdan, who draws attention to the increase in the buildings around the garden in recent years, said, their slogan as "Natural Life Against the Highway!" in the years when the botanical garden was established then she stated that they changed it as “Natural Life Against Concrete!”
