The seventh of the Interior Architecture Talks, jointly organized by the Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF) Department of Interior Architecture and the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, was held with the theme of "Changing Cognitive Limits in the Migration Process" with the participation of Lect. Cem Eren Güven.


The seventh of the Interior Architecture Conversations, jointly organized by the Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF) Department of Interior Architecture and the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, was held with the theme of "Changing Cognitive Limits in the Migration Process" was held with the participation of Lecturer Cem Eren Güven.

The seventh of the Interior Architecture Conversations, jointly organized by the Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF) Department of Interior Architecture and the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, with the theme of "Changing Cognitive Borders in the Migration Process". It was hosted by Beykent University Department of Architecture Lecturer Cem Eren Güven and was held on Google Meet on January 23, 2021, between 16:00-18:00.

The interest of the Department of Interior Architecture and Interior Architecture and Environmental Design students was also intense in the conversation which Department head asst. Prof. Dr. Yaprak Özel, Dr. Asst. Prof. Dr. Zerrin Funda Ürük and faculty members asst. Prof. Dr Pelin Aykut, Lect. Hale Durmuş Ataş, Res. Asst. Gökçe Uzgören, Res. Asst.  Merve Karadaban, Res. Asst. Tuğçe Öztürk and Res. Asst. Eliz Mutlu attended. It started with Cem Eren Güven's summary of his academic career. Cem Eren Güven, who graduated from the ITU Faculty of Architecture, Department of Architecture in 2014, completed the ITU Architectural Design Master's Program in 2018 with his thesis titled "Examination of the Changing Cognitive Limits of the People Living in Tarlabaşı in the Migration Process", and is still in the Department of Architectural Design at ITU. He mentioned that he is continuing his doctoral studies and that he is also working as a full-time lecturer at Beykent University.

Lecturer Cem Eren Güven started his presentation by talking about the purpose of his thesis, the importance of the social environment in the relationship established with the place, the development of the perception of space in the relationship between the social environment moved by migration and the social environment in the migrated place. Then, environmental behavior and perception theories continued with the theoretical background of environmental perception and behavior. He explained the processor/transaction method and after talking about the cognitive theory of environmental behavior, the ongoing processes that make up the environment, and cognitive areas; defined the concepts of sovereignty area, defended area, and local common area. After explaining socioeconomic factors, migration, and adaptation, and cognitive mapping in environmental behavior, he switched to Beyoğlu and Tarlabaşı analysis. He shared the development of the city and Istanbul in Turkey, and the examinations of Beyoğlu and Tarlabaşı on maps. He continued his narrative by exemplifying the physical boundary between the transformation area in the neighborhood and the residences in current street photographs. Then, after explaining the demographic data of Tarlabaşı and the numerical data obtained from Tarlabaşı on the concepts of sovereignty and defended area, tables, and numerical data on the characteristics of the settled people in Tarlabaşı and their views on migration, he completed his presentation by sharing the results of the thesis.

After the presentation, the effects of the migration factor on various districts of Istanbul and the social conditions of the regions were shared. The presentation was a pleasure sharing where evaluations were made on the subject by looking at this change from a different perspective by the societies that migrated to the city, which is not generally done. Head of Interior Architecture asst. Prof. Dr. Yaprak Özel and Head of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Department asst. Prof. Dr. Zerrin Funda Ürük also thanked Cem Eren Güven after the interview.
