Istanbul Gelisim University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Interior Architecture Res. Asst. Başak Lale's opinion paper titled "Past and Present of Ideology in the Representation of Space" was published in Arkitera. The study, which deals with the change in the representation of space from the past to the present in an ideological sense, includes the analysis of the past part of this reading, "House Garden", "The Builder's Journal", "The Small Home", "The Small Home", which were popular architecture / interior design publications of the period, known to be published between 1920-30. Keith's Magazine” through certain advertisement posters. For today's part of the study, a "social media channel", which can be one of the serial sharing areas of various representations, including space, has been chosen. The study is based on the idea that "space representation is an ideology and this ideology is a changing narrative from past to present".
“Space representation has something to say to interior designers!”
Lale stated that she is happy to have a paper in a magazine that she has been following for years with pleasure and has learned a lot about the field. Stating that it is very valuable that one of the country's most important architectural platforms contributed to the opinion article, Lale thanked the editors for providing this opportunity.
As a result of the analysis carried out in the study, Lale conveys the findings as follows:
“Of course, it is inevitable that there will be obvious divergences in the 1920s/present-day spatial representation reading discussed in the completed review. However, from the ideological changes read from the representation in the two periods, it is read that today's focus on the production of space is not the human being but the "purchase of decent and aesthetic life". In other words, the production of the space was also included in the "serial image rain" that we are exposed to through many channels, and it was not only included in periodicals as in the 1920s but also found a place for itself in various fields, including social media channels. As in every field, spatial representation has also been included in an era of mass production. In current representation practices, in this context, the only subject necessary for the space to gain meaning is "human", which has now become the passive element of the space. In this sense, today, where the production of space is in the process of commodification at a great speed, a future scenario comes to mind in which representation is reduced to an image independent of the 'aura'" (URL1).
