Two original photographic works by Başak Lâle, a research assistant in the Department of Interior Architecture at Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts, were presented to art lovers at the International Online Group Exhibition held as part of World Art Day, April 15th. This prestigious event, which brings together numerous artists from diverse geographies and disciplines every year, emphasizes the universal language of art and interdisciplinary interaction. This year's exhibition featured Başak Lâle's works titled "Kerouac" and "Lefebvre." These works were created by digitally re-editing original photographs taken with both analog and digital techniques. In these works, Lâle interrogates the relationship between urban space and the individual, interpreting ordinary urban images from a different perspective. The titles "Kerouac" and "Lefebvre" are inspired by urban theorists, and the works reinterpret the subtle details and invisible traces of everyday life through the visual language offered by photography.
More than 100 academics and artists from over 35 universities across Turkey participated in the exhibition. Participants included many esteemed educational institutions, including Karabük University, Dokuz Eylül University, Gazi University, Selçuk University, Malatya Turgut Özal University, Kocaeli University, Hitit University, Bartın University, Istanbul Gelişim University, Isparta University of Applied Sciences, Harran University, Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, and Gaziantep University. Approximately 150 works were presented to art lovers on the online platform, covering a variety of disciplines, including painting, digital art, typography, photography, and installation.
Res. Asst. Başak Lâle commented on the participation process and her works:
“Kerouac and Lefebvre emerged at the intersection of my field observations and theoretical readings. In both works, I aimed to make the invisible within urban space visible and to reconstruct it with the technical and conceptual possibilities of photography. Participating in this exhibition was a significant experience for me, both artistically and academically.”
We congratulate Research Assistant Başak Lâle for participating in this international event, which highlights the power of art to raise social awareness, and wish her continued success in her academic and artistic endeavors.
