Res. Asst. Başak Lale, an academician at the Department of Interior Architecture, Faculty of Fine Arts, Istanbul Gelişim University (İGU), has added a new one to her studies on the history of architecture/interior architecture. Her research article titled “The Pioneer Space of Modern Entertainment: Yesterday and Today of Marmara Gazino” was published in Tykhe Art and Design Magazine.
This article examines in detail the transformation of Marmara Gazino from the past to the present as a modern entertainment venue. The casino, which played an important role in the modernization process of the Republic period, is evaluated as a reflection of the social and cultural changes of the period, beyond being just an entertainment venue. The research examines the architectural design, social functions and the effects of modern ideology on spatial formations of the casino.
