Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts, Interior Architecture Department Research Assistants Başak Lale and Eliz Mutlu Tekay presented their papers addressing current issues and proposed solutions in their fields at the 2nd International Architecture, Design and Art Symposium (KIADS), hosted by Kocaeli Health and Technology University.
The paper titled "Preservation of Civil Architecture and the Example of Istanbul Historical Peninsula" was presented by Res. Asst. Başak Lale and Res. Asst. Eliz Mutlu Tekay. Başak Lale presented her study titled "The Place/Out-of-Place of Civil Architecture in Conservation Studies: The Example of Istanbul's Historical Peninsula After its Inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List" at the symposium. In her presentation, Lale drew attention to the vital importance of examples of civil architecture in preserving urban identity, and critically evaluated the conservation processes experienced after Istanbul's Historical Peninsula was included in the UNESCO list. The study aims to offer a strategic perspective on the preservation of the civil residential fabric overshadowed by monumental structures.
Res. Asst. Eliz Mutlu Tekay also contributed to the symposium with her presentation titled "Redefining Urban Voids: The Transformative Impact of Pop-up Spaces." In her study, Tekay analyzed how unused voids in urban areas can be revitalized through "Pop-up" spaces, which are temporary and flexible design solutions. This innovative approach, which increases social interaction and contributes to urban sustainability, created an important area of discussion at the intersection of modern urbanism and interior design. We congratulate Research Assistants Başak Lale and Eliz Mutlu Tekay from the Department of Interior Architecture and wish them continued success.
