Innovative Patent Success from Departments of Interior Architecture for the Architecture and Design Sector
The decision-support system based on 2D plan and 3D digital twin synchronization, developed by Head of the Department of Interior Architecture Asst. Prof. Dr. Kadir Öz and Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Faculty Member Asst. Prof. Dr. Meliha Havva Öz from Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), has been patented and registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.
Head of the Department of Interior Architecture Asst. Prof. Dr. Kadir Öz and Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Faculty Member Asst. Prof. Dr. Meliha Havva Öz from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) have signed a significant invention combining architecture, design, and digital twin technologies. The invention co-authored by the academicians, titled "Pen and Touch-Based Interaction with Two-Dimensional Plan-Digital Twin Synchronous Navigation, Spatial Simulation, and Real-Time Decision-Support System," was registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office and awarded a patent certificate.
Two-Dimensional Plans and Three-Dimensional Digital Twins Are Now Synchronized
The registered system semantically matches spatial inputs made via touchscreens and digital pens with three-dimensional digital twin models. Reflecting selections of lines, points, or areas on a two-dimensional plan onto the 3D model in real time, this invention offers a proactive and integrated decision-support mechanism for architects, engineers, and urban planners.
Key Features of the Developed System
The technical components and capabilities of the invention registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office include:

Key Features of the Developed System
The technical components and capabilities of the invention registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office include:
- Synchronous Navigation and Camera Management: Based on pen or touch interactions performed on the 2D plan, the viewing angle, line of sight, and navigation route within the 3D digital twin model are directed instantly.
- Real-Time Design Impact and Simulation: Interventions made on the plan are converted into simulation inputs, reporting spatial impacts and data analysis of the design immediately.
- BIM/CAD Integration and Adaptive Filtering: The system directly integrates data received from BIM and CAD-based sources; it automatically filters and visualizes data layers on the 3D model according to the selected functional data.
- Multi-User Synchronization and Haptic Feedback: While allowing multiple users to work simultaneously on the plan and digital twin, it strengthens interaction with haptic notifications that produce tactile signals.
