BAP Project "Artistic Transformation of Waste with Cyanotype Technique and Sustainability Awareness" has started!

The informative presentation, marking the first stage of the Undergraduate Student Participatory Research Project titled "Artistic Transformation of Waste with Cyanotype Technique and Sustainability Awareness" conducted within the Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA) at Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), has been successfully completed. In the event held on May 6th at 12:30 PM with the presentation of Res. Asst. Dr. Ceren İren, students were provided with comprehensive information about the details and methods of the technique, as well as the execution of the upcoming workshop.

Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Departments of Graphic Design and Interior Architecture hosted a significant interdisciplinary study that brings together art and environmental consciousness. The first step of the BAP-supported research project, positioned under the Social Sciences project group and titled "Artistic Transformation of Waste with Cyanotype Technique and Sustainability Awareness", has been officially taken.
“Waste will transform into art on tote bags…” The fundamentals of the cyanotype (sun print) technique—an experimental printing method that operates directly with sunlight and merges natural processes with artistic expression—were discussed during the presentation organized as the first phase of the project. In the informative meeting held on May 6th at 12:30 PM, Project Manager Res. Asst. Dr. Ceren İren explained the details of the technique, its methodology, and how the workshop stages will progress to the participating students and academics.
The event attracted great interest from project team members Res. Asst. Başak Lale, Res. Asst. Eliz Mutlu Tekay, and project student participant Arda Öker, alongside many other students who are eager to participate in the upcoming workshop stage. This initial phase, which introduced participants to alternative art techniques, also served as the first milestone for fostering a creative awareness of environmental issues.
In the subsequent phases of the project, it is aimed to collect waste from around the Istanbul Gelisim University campus with the participants, create compositions by collaging these materials, and print these compositions onto tote bags using the cyanotype technique. This study, which elevates the concepts of zero-waste production, recycling, and sustainability into a cultural and aesthetic context, aims to foster a critical perspective on environmental issues while enhancing the individual creativity of students.
We would like to thank all our academic staff and students who contributed to the first stage of this project, which reinforces social responsibility awareness through art, and we wish them continued success in the upcoming implementation and workshop processes.
