The students of the Department of Graphic Design, Fashion and Textile Design of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Istanbul Gelisim University studied the works that took place in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Painting and Sculpture Museum within the scope of the 16th Istanbul Design Biennial between 14 September and 10 November 2019.
The theme of this year's biennial was “Seventh Continent" which was curated by French writer and academician Nicolas Bourriaud, which was organized with the motto that the world we live in entered a new geological era. The Seventh Continent defines art as an anthropology that explores human influences, the paths it follows, the traces it leaves, and its interaction with non-human beings. It is the starting point for the 16th Istanbul Biennial to explore the current state of art in the face of ecological problems with many artists, thinkers, anthropologists and environmentalists.
In this context, our department students had the opportunity to examine closely the damage that we have created on nature, climate change, human intervention process and the interaction of this process with human.
