The International Symposium on Art and Design Research titled “Representation of Women in Art and Design”, organized in collaboration with Istanbul Gelisim University and STA Kongre, was held online with strong participation. The event brought together academics from various universities as well as undergraduate and graduate students, where the representation of women was examined through an interdisciplinary perspective within the frameworks of identity, body, and visibility. Within the scope of the symposium, critical and research-based studies on art and design practices were presented. The symposium provided participants with academic presentation experience while contributing to the development of critical thinking and visual analysis skills. Conducted in an online format, the event reached a wide audience and offered an important platform for academic interaction, particularly for emerging researchers.

The International Symposium on Art and Design Research titled “Representation of Women in Art and Design”, organized in collaboration with İstanbul Gelişim Üniversitesi and STA Kongre, was successfully completed in an online format with strong participation and a high level of academic engagement. The event brought together academics from various universities as well as undergraduate and graduate students, establishing an interdisciplinary platform for discussion.

Within the scope of the symposium, the papers presented addressed the representation of women in art and design practices through the conceptual frameworks of gaze, body, identity, and visibility. Participants not only examined existing visual representations but also developed critical and research-based approaches that interrogate how representation itself is constructed. In this respect, the symposium provided a robust intellectual and methodological foundation, particularly for students interested in academic production processes.

Featuring contributions from diverse fields such as graphic design, visual arts, and cultural studies, the symposium offered prospective students the opportunity to follow current research topics, gain experience in academic presentation, and engage with an international scholarly environment. The presentation processes contributed to the development of participants’ critical thinking, theoretical reading, and visual analysis skills.

Conducted online, the event eliminated geographical barriers, enabling access to a broad audience and enhancing the accessibility of academic knowledge. In this context, the symposium served not only as an observational experience but also as a research-oriented environment in which prospective students could actively participate in academic production within the fields of art and design.

Such events, organized through the collaboration of Istanbul Gelisim University and STA Kongre, stand out as significant platforms that support early engagement of emerging researchers with the academic world and promote critical knowledge production in the field of art and design. In this regard, the symposium abstract book and the group exhibition catalogue have been prepared, and access to these publications, as well as the symposium and exhibition archives, is available at www.stakongre.org.
