Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF) Graphic Design Department Instructor Member Aysun Cançat's Statement "On Contemporary Art Sales" was published as part of the International Art and Design Congress organized by Niğde University.


From the abstract; ‘This study aims to raise awareness about the new formations on the sale of artworks in the increasingly digitalized life. With this developing process, works of art and its sale have started to be mentioned with brand new concepts. Concepts such as digital art, digital product, digital market, digital art collection, crypto art, sale of artworks with Nft, digital certificates, and subjects such as the sales channels of the artwork, ownership issues and value have witnessed changes involving inquiries. The trading of artifacts on these new platforms has entered a dizzying change of direction compared to the past. These new channels are; provided the opportunity for the artist, audience and buyer to meet directly and without intermediaries. Although the sale of physical artifacts, which was often carried out through intermediaries such as galleries, auctions and collectors, continues in today's pandemic conditions, it has decreased compared to the past. The pandemic process has made it inevitable that both the sale of the work and the conversion of all intermediaries into a digital format. Change is not only a work of art; In a virtual environment, it is possible to own a three-dimensional object such as a painting, sculpture or ceramic, with a guaranteed certification system and an exorbitant virtual currency. This certified ownership; The uniqueness and originality of the work are also recorded with new technologies. The new art work sales system, in which certain profits are provided by changing hands in these channels; It also brings with it certain questions about the spirit and essence of art and the work of art.'
