As part of the 2024–2025 Spring Semester, the Department of Graphic Design at the Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), hosted a significant external stakeholder event. The event was held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the Mac Studio and featured guest speaker Selen Gül Şentürk, a photographer and graphic designer from Art Record Studio.
The event began with a talk titled “Light Painting Technique: The Meeting of Light and Creativity in Photographic Art.” The talk emphasized that light is not merely an element of illumination, but also a powerful tool for visual storytelling. Şentürk provided an in-depth explanation of the conceptual and technical aspects of light painting and ensured the active participation of students through practical demonstrations.
The main objective of the event was to enhance graphic design students’ creative thinking skills and to familiarize them with contemporary design practices. Through applied exercises focused on light-based production techniques, students had the opportunity to translate theoretical knowledge into practice. Discussions on the aesthetic impact and narrative power of light helped participants develop new perspectives.
Faculty members from IGU’s Faculty of Fine Arts, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nuri Sezer, Res. Asst. Dr. Dilara Mataracı, and Res. Asst. Dr. Ceren İren, as well as many students, attended the event. It was emphasized that such events, organized within the framework of the university-industry collaboration model, not only broaden students’ professional vision but also contribute to their preparation as well-equipped individuals for professional life.
Supporting the Department of Graphic Design’s student-centered and experience-based educational approach, this creative gathering played an inspiring role in students’ development, both technically and conceptually.
We extend our sincere thanks to Photographer and Graphic Designer Selen Gül Şentürk on behalf of Istanbul Gelisim University Faculty of Fine Arts for her valuable contributions to the event.
