Assoc. Prof. Aysun Cançat published a new book chapter

Assoc. Prof. Aysun Cançat, a faculty member at Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Department of Graphic Design (GRA), has published her work titled "Dimensions Transcending the Surface in Visual Arts: Anamorphosis and Encaustic Sample." The book chapter examines the historical development of perspective illusions and the interdisciplinary connection of the ancient encaustic technique in modern art.

Assoc. Prof. Aysun Cançat, a faculty member of the Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts ((FFA), Department of Graphic Design (GRA), has contributed a new academic study to the literature that pushes the mathematical and technical boundaries of art. The book chapter, titled "Dimensions Transcending the Surface in Visual Arts: Anamorphosis and Encaustic Sample," brings together the technique of anamorphosis, which takes shape according to the viewer's perspective, and the ancient method of encaustic (wax painting).
In her study, Assoc. Prof. Aysun Cançat defines anamorphosis not merely as a distortion of an image, but as an act of "transcending the surface" that gains meaning when viewed from a specific angle. Analyzing the philosophical and technical dimensions of this technique from the Renaissance to modern art, Cançat emphasizes how art moves beyond the two-dimensional plane to involve the viewer in a spatial experience.
One of the unique aspects of the study is the interaction of anamorphosis with the ancient encaustic (beeswax) technique. In this chapter, the textural possibilities of encaustic, combined with anamorphosis to create depth and a layered structure on the surface, are detailed through application samples. This interdisciplinary approach offers a new perspective for both classical and contemporary design practices.
As the Department of Graphic Design (GRA), we congratulate Assoc. Prof. Aysun Cançat for this valuable contribution to academic literature and the art world, and we wish her continued success in her work.
