Curated by Prof. Dr. The exhibition, made by İsmet Çavuşoğlu, which includes relief paintings and original prints alongside canvas painting, will be open to art lovers for two weeks. Academician and artist Cançat explained his thoughts about his exhibition "Experimental Variations II", which can be read retrospectively, and the process of the exhibition's emergence with these words:
"The title of this exhibition has emerged as a result of my first period works, my last period works, my works in different techniques and various experimental searches.
FIRST PERIOD PICTURES
I like to try different techniques in painting. In this sense, I can say that I do not adhere to any trend or style. My early works are more fictional, more planned, more symbolic and more conceptual. For example, I made the ”Umbrella and Birds” series. They are in oil on canvas technique… Umbrellas and birds are completely symbolic here. Reflections of people's moods or moods towards relationships emerged in these ways. They are as thought provoking as they look amusing… They say that black is not used in pictures, but I have never agreed with that.
LAST PERIOD PICTURES
I started trying different things. I stopped being fictional and started making more spontaneous, more chance-based and more textured, embossed, tactile paintings. These relief type pictures gave me great pleasure. The reason for my transition to this; For me, sculpture and relief arts always have a special place besides painting. I love sculpture and relief arts. I also worked in sculpture for a while. I thought about how I could combine this with oil paint on canvas and these things came out. My inclination towards this style stems from this feeling… When I make reliefs on canvas, I feel like I am also sculpting. This is my recent work. It looks like it will be like this for a while. But I don't know if these reliefs will come out of the canvas surface and turn into an installation later on... Time will tell...
The volumetric difference between the first and last period paintings; While in my early works, oil painting created a three-dimensionality, an illusory space effect within the painting's own setup; now, far from this fiction, it is the creation of tactile spaces with relief effect in a three-dimensionality approaching the viewer, with the spontaneous placement of the material itself on the canvas. This spontaneous creation became more exciting for me. I started to get to the canvas without editing.”
Curator of the exhibition Prof. Dr. İsmet Çavuşoğlu expresses the following in the text of the exhibition:
“…If I had to make an assessment of Cançat's paintings, I would say that he is full of energy and on the rise. This selection mainly includes oil painting works as well as original print and collage works. It is very valuable that the conceptual works he has done in previous years and the works that use pigeons as symbols are included in this exhibition. It draws attention with its fine sensitivity and a different composition, color and aesthetic understanding, especially in abstract and abstraction works.
