An artistic bridge connecting continents: Prof. Dr. İsmet Çavuşoğlu in Sofia

Prof. Dr. İsmet Çavuşoğlu, a faculty member at Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (GSF), Department of Graphic Design (GRA), met with art enthusiasts through his exhibition titled "Sofia-Istanbul: Art Bridge. Works with Stories," which showcased the artistic fusion of two neighboring cultures in Sofia. Organized by Enakor Auction House and held between December 4, 2025, and January 3, 2026, at the gallery of the Union of Bulgarian Artists (SBH) at Shipka 6, this significant exhibition highlighted the borderless power of art through the works of İsmet Çavuşoğlu, who himself serves as a "cultural bridge."

Prof. Dr. İsmet Çavuşoğlu, who was born in Targovishte, Bulgaria, completed his education in Sofia, and advanced his academic career to the level of professorship in Turkey’s esteemed institutions, currently continues his work across diverse cities such as Istanbul (TR), Targovishte (BG), and Boston (USA). The artist's works, which present a multi-layered structure, unite the cultural depth of the Balkans, the modern dynamism of Turkey, and the contemporary art perspective of the West on a single canvas. The pieces presented within the scope of the exhibition were constructed with a special sensitivity defined as "musical-visual synesthesia," where the artist's brushstrokes convey not only colors but also sounds and rhythms to the viewer.

In the content of the works, it was observed that ancient sacred sites in paintings such as "Epidaurus, Greece" and "Green Composition" evolved from being mere remnants of the past into musical scores pulsating in the present. Reflecting urban vibrations onto his canvas, Çavuşoğlu expressed the energy of metropolises like Boston, Istanbul, and Sofia through vertical architectural lines and color modulations in his pieces titled "Rhythm of Yellow," "Rhythm of Red," and "Vibrations." Additionally, the boats lined up side-by-side in the work "Different Composition" received high praise from art lovers, serving as a static bridge construction symbolizing cross-cultural transitions and unity.

Basing his art philosophy on the principle of "simultaneity"—which unites the past, present, and future—Prof. Dr. İsmet Çavuşoğlu advocated for a global understanding that transcends borders. Emphasizing that art is freer today than ever before, the artist stated that distinctions such as Bulgarian, French, or Turkish art no longer exist and that art has acquired a completely global character. Organized by Enakor Auction House and followed with great interest, this meaningful exhibition concluded on January 3, 2026.
