A new article has been published by Res. Asst. Dr. Ceren İren!

The joint article co-authored by Res. Asst. Dr. Ceren İren, one of the faculty members of Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA), Department of Graphic Design (GRA), and Asst. Prof. Dr. Dilara Mataracı (Istanbul Beykent University) met with readers in an art journal. The study, titled "Kiki Smith’in Baskıresimlerinde Beden ve Bedenin İzi: Temas Yoluyla Benzerlik," takes a closer look at the multidisciplinary production practice of Kiki Smith, one of the important figures of contemporary art.

The article analyzes how Kiki Smith has transformed the phenomenon of the "body" into a medium of expression in her printmaking works since the 1980s. It is stated that the artist discusses the internal and external structure, vulnerability, and biological reality of the body through the concept of the trace, using techniques such as lithography, engraving, and photogravure.

In the study, the direct connection between the physical contact between the matrix and the surface, which is inherent in the nature of printmaking, and Smith's artistic philosophy is examined. The works produced by the artist by bringing her own body or objects into direct contact with the matrix are placed on a theoretical ground within the framework of the concepts of "resemblance by contact" and "immediacy."
