Organized by Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Faculty of Architecture, Department of City and Regional Planning since 2020 as part of the National Postgraduate Spatial Studies Symposium, in the workshop titled“How to Design a Research?”, graduate students came together.
The workshop titled "How to Design a Research?" whose executive team consists of Prof. Dr. Arzu Başaran Uysal, Prof. Dr. Fuat Ercan and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kevser Üstündağ from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Faculty of Architecture, Department of City and Regional Planning, was held on Friday, October 7, 2022, at the Ground Floor Hall of Beşiktaş SEM (Continuing Education Center) Building, Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. Res. Asst. Gökçe Uzgören from Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF), Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design participated as a participant. In the workshop, graduate students from departments of various universities in Turkey such as City and Regional Planning, Architecture, Sociology, Political Science and Archeology came together and exchanged ideas about scientific research design.
In the workshop, scenario designs were made based on three case studies titled “Zorlu Center Construction Process”, “Adatepe Village Change Process” and “Past, Present and Tomorrow of the Islands”. In the workshop, where the directions for the scenario design were made by the workshop coordinators, a rich discussion environment was created about how the phenomena affecting different sub-disciplines of social sciences could be handled and explained with "which discipline, which emotion, which theory, which method".
“It Provided Motivation in the Academic Writing Process”
In the workshop, in addition to designing a research process, the difficulties encountered during the writing of the master's and doctoral thesis and the methods to overcome these difficulties were also discussed. Res. Asst. Gökçe Uzgören, who carried out her thesis on “kısa süreli konaklama platformlarının konutun finansallaşması üzerindeki etkileri” at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Graduate School of Sciences, Urban Planning Doctorate Program, stated that the workshop she attended made important contributions to the process of determining the methodology, which is one of the most difficult issues during the doctoral thesis process. He also underlined that meeting graduate students from different universities and disciplines and having the opportunity to discuss and chat face-to-face provides motivation in the academic writing process. Emphasizing that the participation of participants from different disciplines in the workshop was very useful and enjoyable to develop different ways of thinking about similar phenomena, Res. Asst. Gökçe Uzgören thanked the workshop coordinators and participants.
