The sixth of the Stars in Vision interview series organized by Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) Fine Arts Faculty (FAF) Radio, Television and Cinema department was held with the participation of Gürcan Mete Şener under the title of Cinematography.

Introducing Gürcan Mete Şener's works so far, Asst. Prof. Dr. Radife Akyıldız Ongar, asked questions on topics such as the definition of cinematography, the working conditions of the cinematographer with the other teams on the set, the distinction in TV series and movie sets, and suggestions for those who want to become a cinematographer.

Producer, director, cinematographer and academician Gürcan Mete Şener stated that he defined himself as a cinematographer and defined his profession. “The cinematographer is the director's pen.” Şener started his speech by saying that the cinematographer is the person who creates the world that the director wants, adding that although it has an artistic dimension, it is basically a craftsmanship.

Şener, who was selected among the 100 important cinematographers in the 100th anniversary of cinema, made statements about the relationship between the cinematographer and the director. He stated that the creativity aspect is the director's job, and that the cinematographer is the person who creates the atmosphere desired by the director, together with the camera and lighting team. Şener stated that the desired aesthetic light appearances could not be achieved, especially in the TV series sets in Turkey, and that they acted according to the expectation of the audience and the usual course, and emphasized that this situation should change.

Şener talked about the field of image management, which has become easier since 35 mm film cameras with the developing technology and camera brand preferences, and answered the questions from the students. He explained how they continued the crisis management on the sets and how the team hierarchy worked. He conveyed to those who want to be a cinematographer that they work with a high motivation and that when they work with high motivation, they will definitely be noticed in the sets they enter. Şener also talked about the sets he worked on and the memories he had with famous directors and actors, and stated that the field of cinematography is a field that is open to progress if it is chosen willingly and lovingly.
