 Radio, Television and Cinema Department Participated in the Design Festival with Two Events and an Exhibition


Radio, Television and Cinema Department participated in the Design Festival held on 5-6-7 May within the body of Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF), with two events and an exhibition.


The Design Festival, organized within the body of Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF), met with the participants on 5-6-7 May this year. In the festival, which started with the theme of digitalism, seminars and workshops were held where technologies, innovations and expectations developing and transforming in different disciplines with digitalization were discussed and discussed.
 
The interview titled "Powling into Visuals: Lines and Colors", prepared with the contribution of the Radio, Television and Cinema department, was held on 06.05.2021. Illustrator Merve İlhan was the guest of the interview moderated by Res. Asst. Eda Çekemci.
 
The conversation started with questions about Merve İlhan, who is currently working as a graphic designer at TRT, about her motivation for this field, her education life and her studies. İlhan, who completed his master's degree in film and television studies after his journalism education, commented on his motivation to turn to animation with a personal interest and mentioned that he also got his inspirations from nature, colors, daily conversations, songs and movies.
 
The effects of digitalization on current drawing and design understanding were discussed in the interview where the programs used by İlhan, the resources he used, his choice of color palettes, his favorite illustrators and his advice to people who are new to illustration were discussed. The possible effects, advantages and disadvantages of artificial intelligence in this field were mentioned. It was emphasized that the artist should see the developing technologies as a tool and helper and that he should add his own creativity to his production by making use of these technologies.
 
Another event prepared with the contribution of the Radio, Television and Cinema department, an interview titled Digital Photography: Backstage Photography in the Cinema and Television Industry, was held on 07.05.2021. Photographer Sevgi Can was the guest of the interview moderated by Res. Asst. Eda Çekemci.
 
Starting the conversation by explaining how she started photography and why she turned to backstage photography, Sevgi Can stated that she also does product photography, but her favorite field is backstage photography. Continuing her words by stating that the backstage photographer is the person who views a movie, TV series, commercial, clip set and documents how these productions take place, Sevgi Can stated that they took both photographs and videos on the set and took part in both production and post-production processes. She emphasized that a backstage photographer should be alert and careful in an overactive and sometimes tense environment such as a set. She gave information about how a photographer should prepare his portfolio and how social media should be used.
 
In addition, at the festival, where series on various themes took place, on behalf of the Radio, Television and Cinema department, "Come My Eye, See Nature" Exhibition was held under the coordination of Asst. Prof. Dr. Radife Akyıldız Ongar. Sharing his thoughts on the "Come My Eye, See Nature" exhibition, which aims to present impressive and aesthetic images of nature, which includes nature-themed photographs of the second year students of the Radio, Television and Cinema department, the project coordinator Asst. Prof. Dr. Radife Akyıldız Ongar stated that she is happy and proud of the realization of the project:
 
“In this project, we tried to see nature through the eyes of young people. We had to choose from many photos. I would like to thank all of our second year students who contributed to the project, and I am proud of each and every one of them. Working under the conditions allowed by the pandemic period, they created original works and did not give up on creativity and art. We are honored by their painstaking and valuable work. I hope they continue this sensitivity in their future work. I embrace them all with love.”
