 Asst. Prof. Dr. Emre Doğan Became a Writer at Manifold


Asst. Prof. Dr. Emre Doğan, Head of Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU), Faculty of Fine Arts (FAF), Radio, Television and Cinema Department, became a writer on the writing platform Manifold.


Asst. Prof. Dr. Emre Doğan, the Head of the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema, has started contributing to the popular writing platform Manifold with his essays on cinema, design, technology, art, and everyday life.

Three of his articles titled "Film Simulacra," "Bad Cinema: An Introduction," and "Bad Cinema: Yılmaz Güney's Arkadaş" have been published, with Doğan indicating that more installments of the "Bad Cinema" series are to come.

Bad Cinema: An Introduction

"The gap in meaning between beautiful and good words, which is often overlooked in everyday life, perhaps deserves the most attention in daily life. Against these, ugly and bad words are placed, and the chasm between them is breathtaking. But there is a reason for the (conceptually distant) interchangeability of these words: Beauty is often urged to be good, even if it is bad, regrets are expressed. Ugliness, if it is also good, is attempted to be beautified or the wisdom of accepting it as it is is spoken of. If ugliness is also bad - usually not because it is bad but because it is ugly - it is avoided, and no effort is made about it. It is thought that it is easy to make the bad good, but it is difficult to beautify the ugly. And there is also something both beautiful and good, or it is believed that such a thing exists. For example, God says so. His beauty and goodness are far beyond what the human mind can grasp: It cannot be guessed or imagined, similarities cannot be drawn, and it is incomprehensible. So being both beautiful and good requires divine inspiration. Human insight wants to complement the beautiful with the good, and the ugly with the bad. Therefore, these words are used interchangeably. Confusing anomalies create contradictions. People want peace of mind (...)"
