1. Hello Betül, thank you for accepting the interview request. First of all, can you introduce yourself a bit? Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Hello, I'm Betül Kulaç, 22 years old. I am a third-year student in the Interior Architecture and Environmental Design (English) Program at Istanbul Gelişim University. I live in Beylikdüzü, İstanbul.
2. What was your reason for choosing the Interior Architecture and Environmental Design (English) Program?
Throughout my education, especially during high school and middle school, I was always interested in subjective design. I tried to develop this interest through artistic activities. Later, I decided that I wanted to pursue this in my professional life and started to focus on careers related to it. During this process, I concentrated on the fields of interior architecture and decided that this profession would allow me to express my subjective design in the best way. Additionally, because I want to work globally, I chose the English-taught program to take advantage of the language opportunities.
3. Is there an interior designer/architect whose designs inspire your work? Can you briefly explain why?
In my designs, I always try to incorporate different aspects of various people. Because in this process of trying to find my own path, I’ve been applying all sorts of designs to my projects, trying to find the most correct and suitable one for me. When I noticed that I frequently used the principles of modern and traditional design in my work, I focused on the designs of Albert Hadley. He was an interior designer who stood out for his ability to combine functionality and grandeur.
4. Lastly, what kind of career do you envision for your future? What advice would you give to those considering this program?
As I mentioned, a big part of my career plan is to present my subjective designs to people and do this on a global scale. This is actually the main reason I chose the English-taught program. I want to progress by using functionality and aesthetics in the most accurate way. My biggest piece of advice for those considering this program would be to always remain open to innovation, be inquisitive, and give as much importance to aesthetics as to functionality.
We thank our student Betül Kulaç for this enjoyable interview and wish her success in her career.
